4. Site Development:
Regardless of the hosting account you choose and the domain you register, your site will need to be developed. Several hosts offer build-it-yourself site templates for people and businesses that don't have the resources to hire a professional web developer. These offer a less-expensive solution for people and businesses that need a site, but don't have the technical knowledge to build one, and don't have the funds available to hire a developer to do it for them. The problem with these site templates is that they are often very basic solutions that may not represent your business well. Another possible solution is to learn how to code web pages and develop your own site. It is not difficult to learn how to develop web pages, and there are several very good tutorials available on the internet that can teach people to do this. There are, however, many reasons a small business owner might choose to hire an outside developer to build their web site. Professional developers should: have the experience to be able to develop sites that are compatible with all the different internet browsers; be able to develop sites using several different technologies and know which of these technologies are best to use to solve specific needs; and be able to design a site architecture that internet users will be able to easily understand and use. Finally, a professional developer will be able to take a non-biased, outsider view when designing and developing the site. Obviously the cheapest way to develop a site is to do it yourself. Site development will probably be the most expensive aspect of building your web site if you choose to go with an outside developer, but it will probably also be the determining factor in the quality of your site. There are developers that specialize in working for smaller clients and charge rates that small businesses can afford.
