Conclusion
3. Internet Services:
The different hosting plans you'll encounter
will each have a detailed list of the services you have access to
by purchasing that hosting company's services. For example, a basic
Yahoo hosting account gives you five email accounts, 50 megabytes
of memory for your site, and 50 gigabytes of throughput (throughput
is the amount of information that the host will allow your site
to transmit over the rented Internet connection.) Most hosts will
also explain in detail the type of web server software they use,
the operating system of their web servers, and other technical details
describing the types of technologies they allow their hosting accounts
to use. Other services might include password protected directories,
security certificates, shopping cart software, etc. You'll need
to make sure that the hosting account you choose is compatible with
the site that you want to develop.
Generally, a basic site will only need the services
that are available with the hosting plan. However, additional services
can add to the cost of site ownership if you plan on utilizing E-Commerce.
For example, if you plan on accepting credit cards over the web
you'll need a Merchant Account. If you plan on utilizing an affiliate
program, you can build your own or use one of the services available
on the web. These types of services can add very quickly to the
monthly costs associated with your site. While these costs generally
won't break the bank, it is very important to research the services
you plan to use.
